Larry “Snuffy” Hoeflich

BELLVILLE:Larry “Snuffy” Hoeflich, 78, of Bellville, passed away Saturday morning, July 23, 2011 in Emeritus at Hillenvale in Mount Vernon.

He was born August 3, 1932 to Avery “Jake” and Harriet (Snavely) Hoeflich. The oldest of eight children, he and his siblings were raised on the family farm in Bellville. At the age of 27, Snuffy married Norma Sieber on May 14, 1960 in Canton.

An avid card player Snuffy liked regular games of euchre and getting together occasionally with his brothers and sisters for evenings of card and board games. He loved watching his grandchildren participate in various athletic events over the years, and continued to attend the Clear Fork Valley sporting events even after his grandchildren had graduated.

Snuffy served in the United States Army from May 27, 1953 to May 21, 1955 and was a member of the Bellville American Legion Irvin Husky Post #535, Bellville AmVets Post #43 and VFW Post #5101-Robert Castor Post. He traveled all over the US working as a foreman and crane operator for Lee Turzillo out of Cleveland and Purdy Construction Company out of Mansfield. During his most recent period of employment with Berkel & Company Contractors, Inc. out of Kansas City, he was a Field Superintendent, working mostly in the east coast region until his retirement.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Melodie (Artie) Wolford of Butler, Gina (Gerald) Stillion of Bellville and Terri (Brian) Pfahler of Southern California; grandchildren Jason, Adrianne, and Bethany Stillion all of Bellville, Keith (Ashleigh) Stillion of Perrysville, Brooke Morrison, Nick (Stephanie), Zach, and London Pfahler all of Southern California; brothers Charles Hoeflich and Gary (Kay) Hoeflich both of Bellville, and Jerry (Linda) Hoeflich of Mansfield; sister-in-law Carol Hoeflich of Mansfield; sisters Rosealie & Joe Marker of Bellville, and Linda Cole of Mansfield; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and his extended family at Emeritus.

In addition to his parents and loving wife, Snuffy was preceded in death by brothers Tom Hoeflich and Jim Hoeflich and a sister-in-law Georgia Hoeflich.

Friends may call Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where his funeral services will be held Friday at 11 am. Dr. Tim Davis will speak. Burial with military honors performed by the American Legion Post #535 will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Larry’s honor to the Michal J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or the Alzheimer’s Association may be made through the funeral home.
