Larry L. Palmer

March 25, 1950 ‒ June 16, 2004

Lexington, Ohio

LEXINGTON: Larry L. Palmer, 54, of Steam Corners Road, Lexington, died Wednesday evening June 16, 2004 in his home following a year-long battle with cancer.

Larry is now more alive than ever, in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was born March 25, 1950 in Mansfield to Herbert A. and Thelma I. (Southward) Palmer. He was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1968, where he was active on the tennis and swim teams, and earned his Associates Degree in Computer Programming from North Central State College.

A computer programmer and consultant, Larry operated his own business: Palmer Systems, for nearly 25 years.

Larry was a man defined not by his vocation, but by his passions. As a member of Berean Baptist Church, he had served the congregation in nearly every available capacity: nursery worker, children’s Sunday school teacher, adult Sunday school teacher, and played first base on the church softball team. Larry invested more than a decade in the youth ministry of the church, serving as leader and volunteer.

He served on the church finance committee and mission board. To help Berean’s Church Plant work, and as a member of the core group, he was a charter member of the Crossroads Community Church where he served as finance director for several years. His heart for mission work took him to Brovary, Ukraine, four different times, to serve Grace Baptist Church, Berean’s sister congregation.

Almost as important as his active personal relationship with Christ, Larry maintained an active love of nature and recreation. A good day was spent either watching football, playing league softball, biking, camping, boating, kayaking, rock climbing and rapelling, white water rafting, or grilling.

Larry’s interest in youth and children extended to the community through his involvement in Richland County CASA: Court Appointed Special Advocate, volunteering to follow cases to see to the best interest of the children.

Larry enjoyed a rich fellowship with brothers of like faith, deepened at Promise Keepers events.

He is survived by his devoted wife Dana L. (Rone) Palmer, whom he married June 4, 1994; their children Scott T. and Dawn Palmer of Mansfield, Stacey L. Palmer of Lexington, Becca and Ken Granger of Shelby, and Tara E. Bohland of Lexington; a grandson Adam J. Granger; his brother and sister-in-law Dean A. and Cindy Palmer of Lexington; his sister and brother-in-law Patricia A. and Phil Ackerman of Mansfield; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Rolly and Polly Rone of Lima; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Craig and Linda Rone and Matt and Rhonda Rone all of Lima; his step mother Mary Palmer of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of brothers and sisters in Christ.

His parents preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 20, 2004 from 2-7 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. A Worship Service, giving Glory to God for the Life of Larry Palmer, will be held Monday at 11 am in Berean Baptist Church, 2145 Middle-Bellville Road, Mansfield. The Revs. William P. Heaton and David Pound will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
