Larry G. Algire, age 67, of Mount Vernon formerly of Fredericktown, died Saturday May 30, 2009 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon following a courageous six-year battle with cancer. Larry was born December 27, 1941 in Knox County to Lawrence and Helen (Smith) Algire. He graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1959 and after graduation served with the United States Air Force for 23 years. After retiring from the Air Force, Larry was employed by the United States Postal Service in Fredericktown for 16 years. He had also been employed by Producers Livestock in Mount Vernon, was roadman for Middlebury Township; and served as a trustee and zoning inspector for Morris Township.

Larry had been a faithful and active Grange member for 55 years. First as a member of Middlebury Grange and then as a member of Wayne Grange. He served as Knox County Grange Deputy for 19 years and Morrow County Grange Deputy for 10 years. Larry served as President of the Ohio Grange Deputies Association for 14 years.

Surviving are his wife Jennifer (Chaplin) Algire whom he married April 4, 1964; his daughters Diane Cole and Tammy Breeze both of Mount Vernon; his son David (Tiffanee) Algire of Midwest City, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren Sarah (Tommy) Howard, Chris Cole, Austin Algire and Dalton Algire; and his brothers Robert (Ruth) Algire, James Algire; and Ronald (Susan) Algire all of Fredericktown. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Peggy Calver.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10am at the Waterford United Methodist Church with Ohio State Grange Chaplin, Richard Mahoney officiating. Also assisting with the service will be longtime Grange friend Laddie Marous and Rev. Gary Miller.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wayne Grange or the Palliative Care Unit of Knox Community Hospital.
