Larry Dean Carper

Larry Dean Carper, 79, of Delaware passed away early Wednesday morning March 6, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
He was born September 20, 1933 in Ashley, the son of a farming family, to Jethro and Natella (Boyer) Carper.
He was a graduate of Elm Valley High School (now Buckeye Valley East Elementary in Ashley) where he enjoyed playing basketball on several successful teams and where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Ann Pendleton on December 31, 1954. Shortly after marriage, Larry served his country from 1955 – 1957 as a member of the United States Army. Upon returning home, he began farming with his father-in-law, Lester Pendleton. Larry loved farming and he also milked Jersey cows and sold the milk to OSU. He also raised crops and did some custom silo filling. He was a member of the Kilbourne United Methodist Church, drove school bus for the Buckeye Valley School District for 24 years and was a Brown Township Trustee for 12 years. He enjoyed fishing in Canada and turkey hunting in Ohio and he spent the last 14 years wintering in Arizona where he and Ann golfed and partied with many friends from all over the United States and Canada. Larry was a huge fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball team and he loved and enjoyed spending every moment he could with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and they were truly the light of his life.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Ann; sons, Terry Dean (Patricia) and Michael T. (Beth) all of Delaware; grandchildren, Daniel, David (Candace), and Douglas (Jennifer) Carper, Lauren (BJ) Barhorst, Jennifer (Craig) Moran, and Marla Kay Conley; great grandchildren, Gabriel, Noah, Dovelyn, Ireland, Andrew, Benjamin, Abigail, Avery, Trevor, Taran, and Tori; sisters, Jean Carper and Joan (Richard) Hickson of Florida and Judy (Ben) Stevens of Pennsylvania; brother, Bob (Judy) Carper of New York; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Philip Alan Carper.
The family will receive friends on Saturday March 9th from 1 – 4 pm at the Kilbourne United Methodist Church, 5591 State Route 521, Kilbourne, Ohio 43032. Celebration of Life services will follow at 4:00 pm with Rev. Carol McCartney officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Larry’s memory may be made to the church.
