Kenneth R. “Butch” Griest, age 40 of Delaware died unexpectedly Thursday, July 22, 2004.

He was born on November 18, 1963 in Zanesville to Lorraine (Bretschneider) Griest of Delaware and Kenneth R. Griest Sr. of Crestview, Florida. A graduate of Buckeye Valley High School Class of 1982, he owned and operated Sitework Unlimited, specializing in excavation. Butch also worked as a temporary rural mail carrier for the Ostrander US Post Office.

Of kind and generous spirit, he was a hard worker, working from daylight to dusk. Very proud of his children, he enjoyed playing Xbox with his son,dancing with his daughter, shooting guns, riding motorcycles, NASCAR, rooting for his favorite teams the OSU Buckeyes and Georgia Bulldogs, and playing a good game of pool.

In addition to his parents, he is also survived by his fiancé and companion Cheryl Laucher, daughter Hope of Delaware; son Corey of Marysville, Sister Dawna (Matt) Stowers of Delaware and her children Maegan, Allie, Hannah; Brother Michael (Melissa) Griest of Ostrander and his children James and Joshua, Brother Dan (Kellie) Griest of Delaware and his children Cole, D.J., and Jace; Half-Sister Sharon (Tim) West, her children Nicole, Karie, and her daughter Kamryn; Special friends Jennifer, Shane, and Kaleb Smith of Marysville.

Friends may call Sunday 4-6 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where a service to celebrate his life will follow Sunday at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Bill officiating.
