Kenneth D. Deisch, 86, a lifetime resident of Galion, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at Olentangy Woods Nursing Center in Galion following declining health.

Born Feb. 7, 1925 in Galion, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Fannie Amick Deisch. He married Ilobell Curren Deisch on Aug. 30, 1947 who survives.

Ken graduated from Galion High School in 1943 and following graduation joined the U. S. Navy and served in World War II. He built houses in Galion working for Carl Albright and worked 22 years for Galion Manufacturing. He retired from Galion Dresser in 1987 where he assembled Galion Road Graders.

Ken liked to build furniture, play golf and go to the “Class of 43” reunions. He formerly belonged to VFW Post 4329 in Galion.

Surviving are his one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth L. and Claudia Deisch of Galion; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Brad Kirgis of Lykens Twp.; four grandchildren, LeeAnn Deisch, Kurt Stephanie Deisch, Brenton Kirgis and Callan Kirgis; one great-grandson, Garrett Lee Deisch; step-granddaughter, Shawna Kirgis; step-great-grandchildren, Nykkelis Zorne and Liberty Cooley and three sisters, Dorthy Dixon, Verna Mae Emmett Matthews and Alta Nelson, all of Galion.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Marietta Hensley, Mildred Jerger, Elizabeth Plew, Lenore Linder and Mary Smith-Drake and three brothers, an infant brother in 1908, James Deisch and Paul Deisch.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 with Rev. Joseph H. Bartczak officiating. Burial with military honors by the United States Navy will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Galion.
