Katy Copp (Kay Lyon)

March 01, 1944 ‒ April 14, 2018

Edison, Ohio

Katy Copp (Kay Lyon), age 74, of Edison, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Woodside Village Care Center in Mount Gilead.

On March 1, 1944, Kay was born in Columbus, OH, the only child of the late John Longhenry and Ruth (Hart) Fontaine.  She graduated from Worthington High School in the Class of 1962.  She then furthered her education at the Riverside-White Cross School of Nursing, graduating in 1965.

For many years, Kay was employed as a Registered Nurse at Riverside Methodist Hospital.  She next became the Director of Nursing at Woodside Village when it first opened and then furthered her career working for Dr. Stone in Mount Gilead and at Easter Seals of Mount Vernon.

A woman of faith, Kay attended the Alum Creek Friends Church, Gilead Friends Church, and also the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church throughout the years.

For 25 years, Kay was married to Dick Lyon, father of Scott and Dan.  On April 4, 1996, Kay married Don Copp.  They shared over 18 years together as husband and wife before he preceded her in death on September 2, 2014.  Together they enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and also created Rainbow’s End Christian Center, an organization that provided a getaway retreat for pastors.

Kay enjoyed getting her small family together during the holidays, always preparing a meal large enough for an army.  She also seemed to have a perpetual garage sale going on at her house every summer for numerous years.

Kay will be dearly missed by her two sons: J. Scott (Laura) Lyon of Logan, OH, Dan (Kerry) Lyon of Mount Gilead, OH; and two granddaughters: Alex and Cassie Lyon, both of Mount Gilead.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Raleigh Fontaine.

Kay’s family will greet friends from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church, 3055 State Route 95, Edison, OH.  Services to honor and celebrate her life will immediately follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Ed Colegrove officiating.

Memorial contributions in Kay’s memory may be made to Woodside Village Care Center (please write “In Memory of Katy Copp” on memo line).

  • Rest In Peace Dear Friend — Please know that you will be sorely missed by all of us who considered you and Don our dear friends. You are once again together and there will be celebrating for you, and sadness for all of us. We are so grateful that we had that chance meeting last year when we were out for a ride and recognized the fence that used to be at your house on Circle Drive. We pulled into your drive and got to see you one last time. We are sending our deepest sympathy to your family and friends. Sincerely, Susan and Dick Huggins/Fredericktown
