Katharine B. Piper

Katharine B. Piper, age 74 of Sunbury, died Thursday January 13, 2011 at Grady Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March 31, 1936 in Superior Wisconsin to the late Richard N. Sr. and Celeste (Hintz) Piper. Katharine had lived in the Sunbury area for the past 30 years and was a well known puppeteer.
Katharine was introduced to puppetry at a young age by her parents in Wisconsin. It was a hobby the whole family could participate in and her parents created a marionette show that become The Piper Puppets. While still in grade school Kathy created her own skits and puppets and appeared at schools, fairs, stores and television throughout the upper Midwest. Kathy wrote scripts and created the marionettes for the national distributed instructional television series “Adventure: Economics and her puppets have been featured in galleries across the country. Locally she has been appearing in the Big Walnut Schools since 1962, Amish Country and for the Big Brothers Association.
