Karen L. Zimmer, age 73 of Westerville passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 at St. Ann’s Hospital.

She was born on May 13, 1942 in Columbus to the late Paul F. and Margaret M. (Serio) Theado.  Karen graduated from the former Holy Family High School in 1960. While in school she met James Zimmer on a blind date and together they shared 54 wonderful years raising their family and making a home.  Karen went to work in the food service department of Worthington Schools in 1981.

A devout Catholic and member of St. John Neumann Church, she prayed with a passion and had an extensive prayer list. With a caring heart, Karen sent cards for every event, never missing one.  She was also a member of the Better Breathers Club and enjoyed reading.

Generous and kind, she was a good listener and worried about everyone. She prayed the Rosary daily. Time spent at Mitiwanga Park on Lake Erie will long be remembered, as will her love of family, her husband, children, and especially her treasured grandchildren.

In addition to her husband James, she is also survived by children; Garry (Darcy) Zimmer of Lebanon, Christine Zimmer of Huron, John (Penny) Zimmer of Dublin, Mary Scherer of Powell, Beth (Tim) Smith of Delaware, 8 Grandchildren; Tyler, Emily, Noah, Luke, Justin, Katelyn, Carrie, Kristen, sister Connie (Jim) Schafhausen of Westerville, brother Donald (Gail) Theado of Bremen, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m., prayer services 7:45 pm on Tuesday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. SR 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Neumann Church, 9633 E SR 37, Sunbury with Rev. David Sizemore Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

    I am so sorry to learn of your mom’s passing. She was such a sweet, positive person and I know you were very close to her. I know what it is like to lose your mom and it is extremely hard. You are a faithful, kind, strong person and your mom will expect you to do your best going forward.   • My condolences to the Zimmer family. I met Karen through her daughter Mary, my friend. She was always kind and smiling whenever I saw her. She made everyone feel welcome in her home. I am sorry she hadn’t been well in a long time. I’m glad she is no longer suffering. May that thought bring you peace during this sad time.

    Sorry to hear of Karen’s passing. Sort of grew up with Karen, as her Mom and my Mom were the best of friends. Remember spending the night and along with Connie, Karen and myself we were clowning around and broke the bed. Needless to say her Dad was very upset with us.

  • Mr. Zimmer and family, I’m sorry to hear of Karen’s passing. I worked with her at Worthington Kilbourne for several years. Karen was one of the sweetest ladies I know. Her family and faith meant the world to her. You all have my condolences.
