August 20, 1948 ‒ September 28, 2007
MANSFIELD: Karen L. Riley Austin, 59, of West Fourth Street, Mansfield, died Friday afternoon September 28, 2007 in her home.
Karen fought a courageous year and a half battle with cancer, and is now at home with the Lord.
She was born August 20, 1948 in Head-of-Grassie, Kentucky to Everett and Lettie (Rayburn) Riley, was graduated from Madison High School in 1966 and Mansfield Beauty College in 1967. She later furthered her education at The Ohio State University.
Over 20 years, she lived in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where she worked as a private duty health aid and boat refinisher.
Karen moved back to Mansfield 15 years ago, and continued her work as a private duty aid, and also worked as a private estate housekeeper and cook on the Ballylin Farm.
She was a member of The Rosicrucian Order and the Cooking Club of America.
She was a talented painter, using both oil and acrylic mediums, and was just nuts about gardening ~ primarily flowers. Karen held a sense of wonder in her heart for wildlife, but her biggest attraction was to the ocean.
She is survived by her mother Lettie Riley of Mansfield; a daughter Julie Rhodes of Crestline; four grandchildren; a sister Pat Riley Knowlton of Mansfield; and a cherished special friend Jerry Mayer of Mansfield.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother Greg Riley.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 3, 2007 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 AM. Pastors Erwin Webel and Michael Getz will officiate. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
