June R. Carney, 76, of 700 Willowcrest Lane, Galion, died Thursday, February 26, 2004 at Galion Community Hospital, after a one year illness.

Born June 1, 1927 in Festus, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Frederick LaPlante, Sr. and Joy Craig LaPlante. On June 1, 1947 she married Harold T. Carney and he preceded her in death on August 4, 1997.

She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Galion and Galion Women of the Moose, Chapter #177. She was a good bowler and bowled in leagues every year until she became ill. She liked to golf with her best friend Sandy Benton. She was fun loving and enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas to visit her daughter and could spend hours in the casinos. She had fun playing games and could always keep her grandchildren busy. She taught her grandchildren how to play poker.
She owned and operated the former Readers Haven in Galion. Prior to that she worked at Valley View Golf Course and was a cashier at the former F.W. Woolworth Company in Galion.

Surviving are her two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Linda Carney, of Galion, Thomas and Linda Carney, of Evansville, Ind., a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Thomas Sheets, of Las Vegas, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick LaPlante, Jr.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2004 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where a Vigil Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Monday with Deacon Greg Kirk officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, with Rev. Michael Schelling officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
