June A. Bender

June A. Bender, age 92, passed away quietly at DeWolfe Place on April 12, 2021.  Born July 29, 1928 in Sparta Ohio, she was the daughter of John A. and Imogene (Roach) Butler

On December 7, 1947 she married William J. (Bill) Bender who proceeded her in death July 2, 1973 while serving as a Deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. She and Bill had 4 children, two who are left to cherish her memory

June is survived by her daughter Nancy (John) Eilerman, her son Patrick T. (Beth) Bender and her daughter in law Paula (Rick) Nicolosi.  Also surviving are grandchildren John (Christine) Eilerman, Shannon (Jack) Warwick, Michael Henry, Rebecca Beeney, Lori (Steve) Wold, and three step-grandchildren Julie, Aaron, and Andy Nicolosi.  Also surviving her are over twenty great grandchildren, and her very best friend Leta Lawhead.

June was preceded in death by her husband Bill, son Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Randy Bender, and son Jonathan Scott Bender.   Also preceding her in death were her parents, a brother James A. (Ruth) Butler,  granddaughter Katherine Henry, and great grandson Zach Beeney.

June retired in 1994 from the Marion Public Library, and was an avid reader. She played cards weekly with her “girls” for thirty years. She enjoyed many activities including Clogging, line dancing, tennis, playing Mah Jong and the mountain dulcimer. She also performed with the Marion Community Chorus in presentations of The Messiah for many years.

Thanks go to Capital City Hospice with special attention to Laura and Chantelle who attended to her needs with loving, very much appreciated, care.  Also, thanks go to the talented staff at DeWolfe Place for their assistance during the last year of her life.

Per June’s wishes, a private memorial service will be held graveside at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Marion Public Library, and to Capital City Hospice.

  • My forever friend❤️ I will never forget the love that poured from her .Especially the bond she had with her daughter. When they talked June would say “ love you , love you , love you” to her daughter. Oh and the witty sense of humor she had, we had some good laughs!! She is in my heart forever, fly high June bug!!❤️❤️❤️
