Julius “Ed” Hatton, age 84, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on June 20, 1933 in Mount Vernon, Ohio the son of Donald D. and Janice (Fowls) Hatton. Ed was a 1951 graduate of Fredericktown High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956.

Ed retired in 1982 after 30 years of employment with Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Mount Vernon. He was a member of Amvets Post #95, Colonial City Moose Lodge #2555, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4027 and 49 year member of Thrall Lodge F&AM #170. Ed enjoyed golfing and his companionship with his buddies from the lodges and Hiawatha golf course. He was an avid fan of the Fredericktown Freddies and enjoyed attending numerous sporting events with his son.

He is survived by his son, Dave (Kathleen) Hatton of Mount Vernon, a daughter, Diane (Mark) Doup of Bellville, Ohio, three grandchildren, Brandy Frahn, Aaron (Ashlie) Doup, Nick (Rachel) Doup, six great grandchildren, Justin Sadler, Matthew Sharrer, Addyson Doup, Ruari Doup, Avery Doup and Eira Doup, a great great grandson, Gaberiele Ray Sadler, sister-in-law, Mary Hatton and the mother of his children, Betty Follett.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Don J. Hatton and Jerry Hatton.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 12 p.m. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral. Rev. Timothy Mohon will be officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions in Ed’s name may be made to the Fredericktown First Baptist Church or Fredericktown Athletic Boosters.

  • Sorry to learn of Ed’s passing. Knew him pretty well in our younger years, as I worked for Don and Jan at the Hotel. That is where my memories of him lie–years ago. He was always quiet and smiling and very personable. Prayers to family.
