Julia “Marie” Foos
September 07, 1925 ‒ August 30, 2008
Julia “Marie” Foos, age 82, of Marion, died on Saturday morning, August 30, 2008, at the Sunbridge Care Center following an extended illness.
She was born in Marion, Ohio, on September 7, 1925, the daughter of the late Simeon T. Ward and the late Zelma Ward Bilger.
Having been introduced by her cousin, Marie shared an instant attraction with Kenneth L. Foos, whom she married on January 16, 1943. They happily raised three wonderful children together and 65 years of marriage. Both sharing a love for traveling, they took many trips out west to see the parks and mountains. They also traveled to New York many times to see family.
A proud homemaker, Marie truly loved her family and put their needs before her own. She was happiest when her “home was bursting at the seams” with her family, especially at Christmas time when everyone was together.
Always having fun and teasing everyone, Marie loved to be around people and telling jokes. Her family could talk and laugh for hours about their countless funny stories.
Having a love for music, Marie always had her favorite music playing in the background, often it was gospel music. She also loved reading poetry.
An excellent seamstress, when Marie was younger she often would sew her own outfits and the outfits of her children too.
She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, a past member of Pythian Sisters Lodge, and the Caledonia Homemakers Club and Mothers Club.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Kenneth Foos, of Marion; three children: Robert L. (Sheri) Foos of Columbus, David K. (Linda) Foos, and Linda (Dennis) Roach, both of Marion; six grandchildren: Kelly Stickler, Kevin (Cathy) Foos, Erin Redd, Andrew (Wendi) Foos, Jill Valentine, and Benjamin (Meghan) Roach; 14 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; a brother, Kenneth (Betty) Cranmer of Marion; three sisters: Maxine (Gene) Frontz of Mansfield, Norma (Francis) Diebert, and Phyllis Rorick, both of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her brother, Milton Ward.
The Foos family will greet friends on Tuesday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, where services celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Jared Williams and Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Caledonia Cemetery. All friends are invited to share in a fellowship meal at her daughter, Linda’s, following the services.
