LEXINGTON: Juanita Joan (Clever) “Nita” Volz, age 84, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015 in Galion Community Hospital.

Nita was born August 31, 1930 to parents Norman & Claudia (Hiser) Clever in Johnsville. She graduated from Johnsville High School and that same year married William Volz on August 14, 1948. He passed away February 22, 2011 and now they are together again.

Nita worked for the Ontario Tribune where she had a weekly column called “Nita’s Notes” and was a clerk for Lexington Schools, retiring in December of 1990.

She was an excellent cook, baker, seamstress, knitter, and crocheter. Nita enjoyed working in her flower beds and watching birds fly by. Her friends and family will remember her as a caring and generous woman (with a penchant for practical jokes) who dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by 3 children: Steve Volz, Ed (Linda) Volz, and Pat (Steve) Thomas; 9 grandchildren: Todd (Kristi) Volz, Beth (Kevin) Heibel, Ben (Emily) Volz, Brian (Jeanne) Volz, Matt Volz, Laurie (Eric) Griffin, Travis Thomas, Tyler (Teia) Thomas, and Tricia Thomas; 19 great-grandchildren: Andy, Katie, Sam, Jenna, Jack, Grant, River, Ryder, Claudia, Stella, Lauren, Emery, Hailey, Hannah, Carter, Riley, Natalie, Ethan, and Sydney; a sister Beatrice Dorminy; three brothers: Dave (Bev) Clever, Dale Clever, and John (Kim) Clever; a sister-in-law Margery Heston; two brothers-in-law Loren Volz and Lowell (Peg) Volz; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her loving husband of 62 years, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Katie Brewer Stewart; a brother Harold Clever; & two brothers-in-law Jim Dorminy & Calvin Heston.

  • Hi to Pat, Steve, Ed , I didn’t know NITA long. We became fast friends . She was very funny. I was shocked when I found out. I will always remember how we put puzzles together at Kings ton. We sure laughed a lot. Will miss my new friend a lot.
