Joyce Workman-Garvic, age 74, of Fredericktown-Amity Road, Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the Ohio State University Medical Center. She was born on January 20, 1932 in Mount Vernon, Ohio to the late Smith and Abanna (Cunningham) Pealer. Joyce received her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Bowling Green State University and her Master’s degree in counseling from the Ohio State University. She was employed with Mount Vernon City Schools, where she worked as a teacher and guidance counselor. After retiring, Joyce returned to the school system and coordinated the gifted program with her husband Don. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband Don Garvic, a son, John (Lori) Workman of Dublin, a daughter, Gayle Workman of Hollywood, Florida, a step-son, Matthew (Deborah) Garvic of Upper Arlington, a step-daughter, Beth (Charles) Celauro of Austin, Texas, six grandchildren, Mac, Gus, Joey, Luke, Adam and Julia, three sisters, Evelyn (Ralph) Smothers of Tiffin, Ohio, Joan (David) Conway of Canfield, Ohio and Lois (Milan) Senokozlieff of Perrysville, Ohio, a sister-in-law, Polly Pealer Steltz of Fredericktown and a brother and sister-in-law, David and Joan Workman of Wooster and many loving nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Workman, a brother, John Pealer and a sister, Dorothy Farmer.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. Rev. Rodney Buchanan will be officiating. The family will observe a private burial.
