Josephine C. (Tornichio) Chinni

MANSFIELD:  “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”  God’s faithful servant, Josephine C. (Tornichio) Chinni, has finished her race and is now resting in peace as she  passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 in her home.  She was 87.

She was born May 28, 1930 in Crestline, the daughter of Joseph and Virginia (Gear) Tornichio.  Josephine was graduated from Crestline High School and also received her LPN from the Mansfield General Hospital College of Nursing.  In addition to nursing, Josephine worked for 25 years at Therm-O-Disc, retiring in 1992.

On June 30, 1951 she married Salvadore J. “Sam” Chinni, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1963.

Josephine was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Peter’s Catholic Church.  Strong in her faith she was devoted to the Sacred Heart.

She is survived by her three children Rose Chinni Burns of Mansfield, Joseph Chinni, Sr. and his wife Diane of Mansfield, and Sam J. Chinni, Jr. of Crestline; grandchildren Michelle (Kelly) Thomas, Thomas Feeney, Catherine (Brian) Posendek, Andrew (Lindsey) Burns, Anthony (Katherine) Chinni, Angela (Chris) Watson, Joseph Chinni Jr. (Lindsey); great grandchildren Brenner and Jackson Feeney, Daniel and Thomas Posendek, Nevaeh Paul, and Jordan and Cooper Warmath; two sisters and two brothers.

In addition to her parents and husband, Josphine was preceded in death by her daughter Andrea Chinni Feeney and two brothers.

Friends may call Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 1-3 pm in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the Rosary will be said at 3 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, September 11, 2017 at 10:30 am in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 331 N. Thoman Street Crestline.  The Rev. Father Christopher Bohnsack will officiate.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Crestline.

The Chinni family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of OhioHealth Hospice and to Heidi Craver and Connie Blevins, Josephine’s home health assistants, for their kindness and care throughout her illness and their support to her family.

  • So sorry for your loss. Sending my love and prayers for your family. Mrs. Chinni was such a strong, inspiratonal woman in our neighborhood. I always drive through the neighborhood when I’m in town and remember the good times we shared.
