Joseph Robert Bronson, 87, of Mount Gilead, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Woodside Village Care Center.

He was born in Sunbury, Ohio on February 2, 1923, the son of the late Homer and Luella (Stopher) Bronson.

Joseph served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He resided in Cleveland before returning to Mount Gilead in 1960.

He worked as an auto mechanic until retiring.

Joseph was a member of the Crestline Sportsmen Gun Club and enjoyed hunting and trap shooting.

Cantankerous by nature, Joseph always kept his family caretakers at Woodside Village, and Teresa on their toes.

He is survived by two brothers Ted Bronson of Sunbury, Ohio and Homer Bronson of Marion, Ohio; two sisters, Dorothy Bellamy and Joyce Whitt of Marengo, Ohio, and Linda Newell of Ashville, NC; nieces and nephews.

His wife Mary E. Shreves Bronson preceded him in death along with a brother Bernie Bronson and sisters Virginia Mitchell, Betty Bronson, Mary Caldwell, and Lucille Reynolds.

Ben Granger will conduct funeral services at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 South Main Street on Monday, March 22, 2010 at noon. Burial will follow in Rich Hill Cemetery near Centerburg. Friends may call one hour prior to the services.
