Joseph R. “Joe” Semon, age 80 of Sunbury died Sunday evening, January 2, 2005 at his home.

He was born on Feb. 21, 1924 in Marietta, Ohio to the late Joseph R. and Ava Loraine (Root) Semon. A US Army Veteran of WW II, he grew up in the New Matamoras area and had been a resident of the Sunbury area since 1951. Joe was a carpenter and remodeling contractor. Throughout his life he had also been a farmer, a plumber for Sunbury Plumbing and Heating and held several other occupations.

A member of V.F.W. Post #8736, American Legion Post #457, and Sunbury FOE #3614, he collected antique tools and farm equipment. Known as a fair and honest man, he enjoyed fishing, horses, nature, the outdoors, animals, gardening, and working with his hands.

Survived by his second wife: Brenda Mullett-Price Semon, Children: Elaine M. (Ken) McKinley of New Matamoras, Jerry A. (Roxanne) Semon of Sunbury, William J. (Darlene) Semon of Milton, FL, Susan Loraine (Robert) Schneider of Lansing, MI, Donald T. (Robin) Semon of Centerburg, Step-children: Kathy (David) Throop of Houston, TX, Ronald (Lisa) Price of Hilliard, Kenneth (Jeannine) Price of Sunbury, 13 Grandchildren, 9 Step-grandchildren, 14 Great-grandchildren, 2 Step-great-grandchildren, Sisters: Mary Nash of Cleveland, Donna Travis of Lewisville, OH.

Preceded in death by his first wife: Elsie M. (Bates) Semon in 1990, Son: Joseph R. Semon II in 1964, Step-grandson: James E. Price in 2004, Brothers: John and Robert.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Carol Weiss officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Sunbury Memorial Park.
