MANSFIELD: Joseph Myron “Joe” Lakes, 75, of Mansfield passed away Monday morning June 19, 2017 surrounded by his family.

The son of Harold and Hattie (Price) Lakes, Joe was born August 18, 1941 in Hamilton, Ohio.  Growing up in Brookville, Indiana, Joe graduated from Brookville High School where he was an accomplished athlete excelling on the football, track and basketball teams.  Most notably he made the winning basket in the championship game against Connersville High School.  He later graduated from Eastern Kentucky State earning his bachelor’s degree in Business.

Successful and hard working, for 32 years Joe worked for RR Donnelley and Sons as Human Resources Manager.  During his distinguished career Joe worked in Indiana, served as startup manager in Pennsylvania and completed his career in Willard where he eventually retired.  Following his retirement Joe founded his own search firm focusing on recruitment within the printing industry.

Baptized in 1995, he was a member of Berean Baptist Church.

Joe loved to travel and collected antiques.  He was even meticulous about his landscaping making sure his property was well maintained.

He is survived by his loving wife Delores “Dee” Lakes; son Matthew Lakes; daughter Deborah Bartley; three grandchildren; sisters Marcia (Earl) Fischer, Barbara (John) Engle, brother Gary (Mindy) Lakes; sister-in-law Carolyn Lakes.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son Phillip Lakes, brothers David and William Lakes.

His family will receive friends Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 5-7 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 am in the chapel at Berean Baptist Church, 2145 Middle Bellville Road, Mansfield.  Pastor Bill Heaton will officiate.  Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to Berean Baptist Church or Pathways Hospice may be made through the funeral home.
