Joseph Myron DeRosa

On Wednesday Joe began (what he told his daughters was) his Next Big Adventure.

He will be missed by so many, including his daughters, Sherry (Bob) Barbosky, Suzy Schupp, Joanne Meyer and their mother, Fereshteh Hale; his step-children, Stephan Ray, Hillary Ray, Tiffany (A.J.) Pfeuffer, and Justin ( Amy ) Ray; his sister, Charmaine Hunsaker; brother-in-law, Norm Klotz,  his long- time companion, Mary “Mike” Jeisel, his grandchildren, Daniel (Adriana) Milner, Justin, Sarah and Ryan (Alissa) Barbosky, Craig (Krista) Schupp, Kaitlin (Sean) Anthony and Kyle Meyer; great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; his pool-shooting buddies, his bridge partners and friends at SourcePoint.

Joe was born and raised in St. Charles, Missouri with his sisters, Charmaine and Rose Mary.  He grew up working in the family-owned shoe repair shop with his parents, Joe and Katy.   He served in the Korean War and returned home to attend college at Missouri University.   He worked in the insurance field his entire career and moved to Delaware in 1967.   He purchased the Burrell Insurance Agency in 1984 where he worked until his retirement in 1995.

Joe loved to play ping-pong, shoot pool, play bridge and black-jack and played softball until the age of 75.  He loved photography and gave many framed photographs as gifts.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at SourcePoint on Saturday, November 14th with open house from 1:30-3:30 and service at 3:30.   The family will bury his cremains at a later date.

Any donation in Joe’s memory can be made to the Delaware Speech and Hearing Center, where he served on the board and was a valued member, or to SourcePoint where he was a friend to many.

Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center is assisting the family.
