October 16, 1958 ‒ November 09, 2012

Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD: “There is no substitute for hard work.” Joe never looked for any such substitute and dedicated his life to working hard for the benefit of his family.

Joseph “Joe” Martin Scherer, 54, of Mansfield, died, Friday morning, November 9, 2012 in Riverside Methodist Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born October 16, 1958 in Mansfield to Harold and Ilene (Smith) Scherer and was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School with the class of 1977. Joe also received his associates’ degrees from the Lima Business College.

On August 16, 1986 he devoted himself in marriage to Mary L. Lollini. Joseph had always wanted a close family with children; his wish came true when he and Mary had two daughters and a son.

A lifelong area resident, Joe worked for years as an Import Technician at Weidner Motors. He was an avid NASCAR fan and always had time for a good Go-Cart race. Joseph’s favorite pastime was fishing with friends.

He is survived by those he held most precious, his loving wife Mary; daughters Brianna L. Scherer of Mansfield, Alysa J. Scherer of Greenville, SC, and a son August J. Scherer of Mansfield; his mother Ilene Scherer of Mansfield; siblings Judith (James) Crowl of Mansfield, Ronald (Camille) Scherer of Mansfield, Tom (Lynn) Scherer of North Carolina, David (Kyna) Scherer of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Harold Scherer.

The family has planned a private memorial gathering to be held at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home.

Contributions in Joe’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation may be made at the funeral home.
