MANSFIELD: Joseph J. Fackler, age 92, of Mansfield passed away Friday evening January 29, 2010 in Alterra Sterling House of Mansfield.

Joe was born April 16, 19 17 in Lenawee County, Michigan, to Ivory and Sadie (Keener) Fackler. In 1935 he was graduated from Loudonville High School.

Following graduation Joe served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He patrolled both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans aboard the USS Riley, a destroyer escort.

He married Frances Smith on October 6, 1940. The two resided in the Mansfield area where Joe worked at Westinghouse. He retired on June 1, 1976 after working 40 years.

Joe was a member of Venus Lodge F&AM and was also a member of the former Central United Methodist Church in Mansfield.

Joe is survived by his daughter Jo Ann Fackler of Mansfield and her companion Michael Zornes; a sister Hazel Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and a cherished friend Pat Hill of Mansfield.

He was preceded in death by his wife Frances Fackler on January 31, 2004. Also deceased are his brothers Clois Fackler and Buford Fackler; sisters Beulah Frederick, Zella McDanal and Mildred Keen.

The Fackler family will receive friends today Monday, February 1, 2010 from 4-7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where his funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
