Joseph Allen Barnes

August 22, 1958 ‒ May 30, 2019

Mount Vernon, Ohio

Joseph Allen Barnes, 60, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 at home after a long bout with ill health and seizures. He was born on August 22, 1958 in Wichita, Kansas.  He moved from Dallas, Texas in 2001 with his longtime friend, Gaylen A. Waddell to Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Joe loved rock and roll especially Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones.  He always liked to tell how he was the undefeated Southwest Wrestling Champion which he earned as a young boy in Irving, Texas.

Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Dorrell E. Barnes and his mother, Shirley L. Barnes and an older brother, John who died a good number of years ago.

Joe is survived by his sister, Cynda Dart of Sacramento, California and his brother, Steven Barnes of McKinley, Texas.

Joe was a great lion hearted friend, whose warmth and kindness will be missed forever.

Someday, perhaps passed the Milky Way, and a little passed a goodly star there will be a sunny place where we can talk about the old days, once again.  May the Lord bless and keep him. (Gaylen).

In following with Joe’s wishes there will not be any services.

Memorial contributions may be made to UNICEF in Joe’s memory.

  • I’m sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one in death is such a difficult thing. Please find comfort in knowing that God views death as an enemy and will soon end it forever. (1 Corinthians 15:26) God’s Word also promises a time when we can all hope to see our loved ones again. ( John 5:28,29) A beautiful hope!

  • My sympathy, to Galen and Joe’s family.

Please take care of yourself, Galen. And yes, somewhere beyond the Milky Way you will meet again. I know you will plant a rose or other flower in your garden to honor Joe.
