Joseph A. Burns, age 54 of Akron, died Friday evening September 16, 2011 at The Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus.

He was born on March 13, 1957 in Columbus to Willard Burns and Joan (Shockley) Myers. He was an electrical technician for the US Postal Service and thoroughly enjoyed his job. Joseph was a US Marine Corp veteran.

Joseph lived his life for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and enjoyed reading and discussing the bible. Joseph was active with the Postal Workers Union as a union steward and a state representative for the union.

He is survived by his mother and father: Joan and Paul L. Myers Jr. of Palm Coast, FL.; brothers: Willard Burns of Newark, Jack Burns of Roseville, Jim Burns of Roseville, Jay (Kimberly) Burns of Ashley, Paul David Myers of Canal Winchester; sisters: Pam (Doug) Coldren of Westerville, Mary Jo Myers of Gahanna; half-brother: Andrew Burns of Mount Vernon; special nieces: Megan and Katie Burns; nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday one hour prior to the 2 p.m. service at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William Street, Delaware with Rev. Paul L. Myers Jr. officiating. Interment with military services will follow in the Ashley Union Cemetery.
