Jonathan Daniel “Jonny” Thran

July 01, 1996 ‒ July 09, 2017

Butler, Ohio

BUTLER: Everyone’s best friend. How else can you describe someone who never knew a stranger. Jonny cared about others, always looking to make new friends. Even from age two, Jonny was always looking for ways to make others smile… and evoking a laugh was even better.

Jonathan Daniel “Jonny” Thran passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 from injuries of a motorcycle accident. He was 21.

He was born July 1, 1996 in Mansfield to parents Eric “Rick” & Laurel “Lori” (Marvicsin) Thran. Jonny worked at Uncle John’s doing whatever he could to help out and also worked at Mohican Adventure in the aerial park helping to, in his own words, “save lives”.

In spare time, Jonny loved taking pictures and appreciated the beauty of nature. He would be known to pull over on his way home to snap a picture of the sunset, a beautiful field or a moss-covered rock.

He is survived by his parents Rick & Lori Thran; siblings Eric (Ashley) Thran and Matthew Thran; nephews Jayden, Israel and Gabriel; grandparents Joan Thran and Ina Jean & Darrell Marvicsin; aunts and uncles Angela (John) Ondo, Rhonda (Brian) Sellers, Jeff (Pam) Marvicsin, Lisa (Bill) Daugherty, Tara (Mike) Apking, Bryon Marvicsin, John Marvicsin, Melissa Marvicsin and Rachel Marvicsin; cousin Alex Apking who he considered a brother; as well as numerous cousins and extended family.

Jonny was preceded in death by his grandfather William John Thran and uncle Bryan Puderbaugh.

The Thran family will receive friends Friday, July 14, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home and requests you to bring a photo of you and Jonny to be displayed as each of you held a special place in his life. A funeral service honoring Jonny’s life will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. Pastor Patrick Bailey will officiate.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Jonny’s memory to assist with final expenses may be made to Snyder Funeral Homes.

Snyder Funeral Homes is honored to serve Jonny’s family and encourage you to share a fond memory or message of condolence to them –or to watch his tribute video– at SnyderFuneralHomes.com

  • I knew jonny for maybe only about 2 years. To be honest we had a few choice words at times over stupid stuff, but he always managed to make me laugh or find a reason to not fight. I have always had a fear of heights and somehow jonny managed to help me conquer that fear by inviting me cliff diving at a quarry, that’s one memory I’ll never forget. I can’t begin to explain how many times he came to my rescue when I was stranded. Ill always miss this dude, just wish I would have had more of a chance to spend time with him. You’ll be missed brother! My heart goes out to his family!

  • So sorry for your loss ,Chrissy and I send our deepest sympathy at this most difficult time

You guys were like a family to me and I hold you all close to my heart. Thank you for raising my Bestfriend!

  • I am so sorry for this tragedy that has happened! I don’t know much about him but know that he was kind and that his family loved him soooo much! I’m praying for you guys and can’t even try to comprehend how sad you all must be. Love you and praying for you!

  • Please accept my deepest sympathy for your family’s loss. I know you must be grief-stricken at the tragic death of your loved one, Jonny. He had so many years ahead-so much to live for. The Bible can help your family to cope with such pain. At Ecclesiastes 9:5, the Bible shows that the dead are not suffering, so I hope that fact gives your family an inner peace. The Bible also teaches that there is going to be a resurrection and that those who are dead will be brought back to life.—Acts 24:15. I sincerely hope that these scriptures from the Bible will bring your family much comfort and hope, as you continue to treasure your wonderful memories of Jonny.
