John W. Wilson, age 88, of Delaware, died early Monday morning, March 8, 2004 at his residence.
He was born in Delaware, Ohio on March 14, 1915 to the late Wilbur and Harriett (Woodson) Wilson. Lifelong resident of Delaware, John worked for the 3-C program Civilian Conservation Corp as a young man.
He then entered the US Army and was a veteran of WW II. He retired from the former Hughes Keenan Corp. of Delaware as a mechanical maintenance engineer and following retirement was a welding instructor for Delaware JVS.
John was a founding member of AM Vets Post No. 3, a 32 second degree Mason of White Sulfur Lodge #10 F. & A.M., he was an avid golfer and member of the Zion AME Church.
Survived by his loving wife of over 60 years; Frances “Toots” (Crawford) Wilson, Sons: John “Jack” Wilson, Richard “Rick” (Patsie) Wilson all of Delaware, Grandchildren; Stephanie Wilson, Amy Wilson, Christine Deel, Great-grandchildren; C. J., Jakob, Scott, Sisters: Marilyn Moore of Columbus, Mary Jo (Carl) Holloman of Dayton, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Also preceded in death by Brothers: Woodson Wilson and Nathan Wilson Sr., Sisters: Dorothy Cosby and Doranna Wilson.
Friends may call Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where services will be held Friday 1:30 p.m., Rev. Harold Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the Delaware County Veterans Assoc.
At the conclusion of the services a reception will be held at the AM Vets Post #3 for family and friends.
