John W. “Jack” Ballard Jr., age 75 of Delaware, passed away Friday June 17, 2016 at Kobacker House in Columbus surrounded by his family.

He was born on December 24, 1940 in Columbus to the late John W. Sr. and Edna M. (Smith) Ballard. He lived in Delaware most of his life and was a graduate of Willis High School Class of 1959. John had worked as Traffic Manager at Glenwood Range and then had his own business Nationwide Transportation in Delaware.

John was a homebody who just loved to be at home with his family. He worked hard to provide for his wife and children and did enjoy fishing, camping with his family.  John loved tinkering with things and fixing them. John was proud of his successful career and the successful careers of his family.

He is survived by his son: Gary Ballard of Delaware; grandchildren: Olivia and Blake Ballard, Jeffery Emmel; special friend: Cathy Herriott; step-sisters: Debbie Haas, Dorothy Ballard both of Delaware.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Virginia (Franklin) Ballard in 2012; son: Mikey Ballard in 2011; brother: Larry Ballard.

Private services for the family will be held at a later date.

  • Jack was one of my favorite people! Always had a smile and a hug for me. Such a kind, sweet, thoughtful man with just a touch of ornery. He will be missed by all of Dr. Zehnder’s staff! heart goes out to the Ballard family! We will be thinking of you.

  • I don’t know what to say right now. I am at a total loss for words. Uncle Jack was a wonderful man. I used to tell people he was my second daddy. Aunt Virginia and Uncle Jack were very special to me, as was Mike and Gary too. This part of my family was there for me when I was younger. I love you all very much and think of you all often. To Olivia, I remember when you were little and just how much your grandma and grandpa loved you. We spent a lot of time together when I lived there and throughout the summer.Uncle Jack will be greatly missed and I will always hold dearly the special times and memories we shared.

I always visited with Jack and Virginia when visiting Delaware and was always warmed by their kindness and genuine interest in me and my family.
