Following his high school graduation in1963, Steve was employed 12 years at Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPGIndustries). He was then hired as one of the first employees at Kelsey Hayes, working as a foreman (getting his tires slashed and receiving threatening phone calls during a strike) and later serving as a union steward and president. Steve transferred to KnoxCountyin 1997 to work as a HWYworker 3. While employed by ODOT he taught QSTP classes and served as union steward and president. He retired in 2005 with 20 years of state service.
For 15 years love for his Lord shown through while singing bass with “The Layman Singers” and during choir at Amity UMC. And later, with joy in his heart, sang in the choir and taught bible study at Mulberry Street UMC.
Steve coached football and baseball when his sons were little and won numerous awards while serving as president of the Mt Vernon Lions club. However the greatest passion of his life was his 20 year Christian portrayal as the Mount Vernon”Santa Claus”. He brought joy, hope and love to so many, both young and young at heart.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Patty (Dunham) Yarman of Mount Vernon, a son Dwayne of Howard, a son John Scott (Toni) of Danville and a daughter Karen (Lee) Luebke of Mount Vernon.
