John Richard Decker, 61, of 201 Second St., N.W., Canton, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 in Mercy Med Center, Canton.

Born February 16, 1942 in Galion, he was the son of the late Ralph Riley Decker and Dorothy Rebecca Auld Decker.

He attended Galion High School.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in Vietnam and after that he served with the U.S. Army Reserve in Mansfield.

He was a professional photographer and formerly worked for United Church Directories in Galion.

He is a former member of the Canton VFW and Disabled American Veterans of Canton.

Surviving are his step children, Krista and David Bates, of Greenfield, Ind., Kimberly Bess, of Columbus and four step grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Barbara Ritchey, of Columbus, Eleanor and Paul E. Cook, of Mansfield, Virginia Lois and John Boggs, of Ashland, three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Michael L. Decker, of Cleveland, David Ralph and Phyllis Decker, of Galion, James William and Pat Decker, of Ada, Mich. He was formerly married to Geri Bess.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Kern officiating. Interment will be in Iberia Cemetery.

Full Military Services will be held by the Galion/Crestline area Veterans Organizations during the memorial service at the funeral home.
