John Ray Kirkpatrick
March 24, 1934 ‒ July 30, 2017
MANSFIELD: Lifelong area resident, John Ray Kirkpatrick went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 30, 2017 following a brief illness. He was 83.
John was born in Butler on March 24, 1934 to parents Leo & Mary (Hamilton) Kirkpatrick. He worked 36 years for Empire Detriot where he was a member of United Steel Workers #169 and was also self-employed as a real estate investor who took pride in maintaining his properties.
A beautiful young lady named Mary M. Parsons caught his eye and the pair married in 1961. She passed away in 1994 and they are now together again.
In spare time, John took pleasure in playing card games like Euchre, and fabricating with metal. In younger years, he was quite the outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing, and scuba diving—he was the former vice-president of the Mansfield Skin Divers Club.
He is survived by his children Terri Ann Kilgore and Larry Ray Kirkpatrick both of Mansfield, and Susan Kirkpatrick (Dana Davis) and Debra (William) Hank-Dinschel both of North Carolina; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers James (Susan) Kirkpatrick of Butler and Jerry (Barbara) Kirkpatrick of Mansfield.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 33 years, Mary (Parsons) Kirkpatrick; and son Leo R. Kirkpatrick.
A funeral service honoring John’s life will be held Monday August 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home and friends are invited to call the hour prior. Celebrant Jerry Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park near Lexington.
