John A. “Peanut” Scaggs

November 08, 1954 ‒ August 24, 2014

Richwood, Ohio

John A. “Peanut” Scaggs, age 59 of Richwood passed away at home Sunday, August 24, 2014 following an extended illness.

Born in Delaware on November 8, 1954, he was a son of the late Charles and Hazel J. (Neace) Scaggs. He worked as a welder for Marion Power Shovel and Dresser Industries from 1974 until 1997, and then worked with Performance Site Management.

An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping, and golfing.  He dabbled in woodworking and loved attending The Little Brown Jug race. An avid corn hole player, he also enjoyed playing horse shoes, shooting pool, and teaching his grandchildren the game of chess.

Peanut was a true jokester at heart to the point of being described as goofy. Always generous, he helped the best he could, whether he had it to give or not. He loved to reminisce about the old times and was quite the story teller. Celebrating the Fourth of July with family and friends was always special.  He loved dogs, especially his beloved Australian shepherd, Rusty.

He will be remembered for his love of family, sitting on his back porch, taking it all in.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 40 years Robin (Nibert), son John (Debbie) Scaggs of Ostrander, grandchildren Jonathan and Justin, brothers Charles of Ostrander, Paul “Lou”, Donald (Judy) both of Delaware, and Thomas (Susan) of Ostrander, several nieces and nephews, mother-in-law Jerri Nibert of Delaware, sister-in-law Louree (Ray) Lilly of Anna.

He was also proceeded in death by father-in-law Eddie Nibert, sister-in-law Joeanne Nibert, and nephew Thomas Scaggs.

Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Dr., Delaware, where services celebrating the life of John Scaggs 1:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Delaware County, 4920 S.R. 37 E, Delaware, Ohio 43015.
