John P. “Dick” Leggett

John P. “Dick” Leggett, age 83 of Sunbury, died Sunday morning January 21, 2007 at St Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

He was born on August 18, 1923 in Charleston, WV to the late Hal F. and Cybal J. (Clevenger) Leggett. He was a WWII Army Veteran and had participated in the campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of the VFW Post # 8736 in Sunbury and had lived in the Sunbury and Mt. Liberty area for 10 years.

Dick will be remembered as the “rock” of his family, the one they could turn to for help and he could be found most Friday nights with his family at MCL for dinner and Sunday morning breakfast at Bob Evans. He was very proud of his service to his country in the military and enjoyed the Ohio State Buckeyes. His family was very important to him and he still watched the grandkids after school and took them to soccer games and practices. In his earlier years he enjoyed camping with the family.

He is survived by daughters: Rebecca Gentile of Sunbury, Paula Norris of Columbus, Laura (Frank) Snead of Hilliard, Jody (Jeff) Wenger of Centerburg. Grandchildren: Leslie DePriest, Carl III, Angela, and Anthony Gentile, Frank Jr. and Holly Snead, Jessica and Jennifer Wenger, great grandchildren: Alex, Austin, Andy and Adam and one expected. He is also survived by 2 brothers. He will be sadly missed by his constant canine companion, Hope.

Preceded in death by son; John Patrick Leggett, wives: Ruth Cadwallender and June Rosaline Romesburg, 2 brothers, 3 sisters.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury where services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. in the New Lone Oak Cemetery, Point Pleasant, WV.
