John Martin “Marty” Vollmer
May 11, 1958 ‒ December 05, 2008
MANSFIELD~ John Martin “Marty” Vollmer, II, age 50, of Allison Avenue Mansfield, passed away Friday evening December 5, 2008 from an apparent heart attack.
He was born May 11, 1958 in Mansfield to John M. Vollmer, I, and Roma Eve (Jackson) Vollmer, and was graduated from Malabar High School in 1978.
A lifelong Mansfield resident, Marty had worked the past year and a half as a driver with Buskirk Trucking.
Though he never had a lesson, Marty could play any musical instrument you handed him. He excelled on his guitar and was active in the praise & worship ministry at Mansfield Grace Temple, where he attended. Surely, the Lord had need of another musician in heaven for Marty to be taken so young.
Described as sensitive and caring, with a strong sense of family ethics, Marty truly had a golden heart, and in times of crisis, was always there for family and friends.
A bit of a prankster, his sense of humor was sharp. Marty seemed to always be “one up on you.”
He is survived by his fiancée Susie Artrip of Mansfield; his lil buddy Daniel; his mother and father Roma and John Vollmer, I; his children and their spouses Tina Stiffler of Shelby, Chris Vollmer, Shannon & Aaron Johnson, and Theresa & Jammar Lindsey all of Mansfield; step children Linda & Chris Shears and Brian & Devin Harvey all of Mansfield; 18 grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Firbia Edna & Steve Smith of Greenwich; brother and sister-in-law William & Char Vollmer of Lodi; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents; step-daughter Katherine Fix; sister-in-law Nancy Vollmer; and aunts and uncles.
The Vollmer Family will receive friends Wednesday, December 10, 2008 from 2~4 and 6~8 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, 350 Marion Avenue (Former Finefrock Funeral Home), where the funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. The Rev.
