John L. Schneider, 89, of Galion, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 at Galion Community Hospital.

Born July 5, 1921 in Covington, Ky., he was the son of the late John Schneider and the late Marie Tabeling Schneider. He married Jeanne Lear Schneider on Feb. 5, 1949 who survives.

John graduated from Covington Catholic High School in Covington, Ky. and later from University of Cincinnati. He served in communications during World War II in the United States Army infantry. After his discharge from the Army he started working at the former North Electric in Galion where he was a salesman for 13 years. He retired while living in Kansas City, Mo. in 1983. He and his wife moved to Sun Lakes, Ariz. in 1988, where they spent 19 years. They returned to Galion in 2007.

John enjoyed golf and working on his computer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus, St. Francis Council 1234; American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 in Galion and Galion Elks Lodge 1191 where he has been a member since 1946.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sisters, Sister Mary Carmella, S.N.D. and Marian Hoffman, both of Kentucky; one nephew and 10 nieces and one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Paul Sherman of Galion.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Laverne Ober.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Haas, celebrant.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of Richardson-Davis Funeral Home.
