John G. Fontaine

John G. Fontaine, age 80, of Mount Vernon, Ohio and formerly of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.  He was born on November 16, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois the son of John and Liane (Brinkopf) Fontaine.  John proudly served in the United States Navy.

In his free time, John enjoyed racing cars.   He specialized in road racing and was Rookie of the Year in 1992.  He eventually won the Tri State Championship, competing against teams and drivers from Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois.  He also enjoyed golfing and fishing.

He is survived by his daughters, Susie (Paul) Hallowell of Palm Coast, Florida and Margaret (Mark) Pitts of Keystone Heights, Florida, two grandchildren, Rachael Romero and David Bergerson.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will observe a service at a later date.  The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of John G. Fontaine.

Memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to the Ohio Eastern Star, U.S. Navy Memorial or charity of one’s choice.
