John F. “Fritz” Durtschi

John F. “Fritz” Durtschi, 88, of Galion passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Signature HealthCARE in Galion.

He was born March 24, 1933 in Flushing Island, New York and was the son of Herbert R. and Peg (Prynn) Durtschi. On May 10, 1952 he married Betty M. (Pugh) Durtschi and she preceded him in death after 55 years of marriage on June 26, 2007.

Fritz graduated from Galion High School in 1951 and worked as a metal fabricator at HPM in Mt. Gilead and Carter Machine in Galion. He owned and operated Benco in Galion for many years. Fritz was a member of First United Church of Christ in Galion and the B.P.O. Elks Galion Lodge 1191 of Galion. He was an avid fan of all sports, loved cooking and gardening and tinkered with all types of things in his garage.

He is survived by son John Anthony “Tony” (Anna Marie) Durtschi of Mansfield; daughter Adair (Todd Knight) Pittman of Galion; eight grandchildren, Dustin (Crystal) Sheriff, Carol Ann (Roman) Keim, Brianna (Brad Busby) Durtschi, Blake Durtschi, Alaina (Trey Quaintance) Durtschi, Kala Minor, China Taylor and Dom Pittman and two great-grandchildren, Sommar Sheriff and Ruby Busby.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a daughter Melinda “Mindy” Sheriff; brother Herbert P. Durtschi and sisters Phyllis Newbauer and Adair Schiefer

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at First United Church of Christ, 248 Harding Way West, Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday with Rev. John Miller officiating. Elks Service will start at 10:45 a.m.0 Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
