John E. “Jitterbug” Parker Jr., 68 of Centerburg, died unexpectedly Tuesday December 22, 2009 at his residence.
He was born on August 4, 1941 in Centerburg to the late John E. Sr. and Ruth Etta (Wince) Parker. He was a life long area resident and a member of the Centerburg Church of Christ.
Jitterbug, a nickname given to him by his father when he was a baby, was known as a mechanic who would help anybody he could. He was a loving, compassionate, kind hearted person who enjoyed working and helping others. He enjoyed hunting small game and deer, fishing and participating in Demolition Derby’s around the area, and the Mountain Dewer’s Tug of War Team.
Survived by sons: Jeff (Tammy) Parker, Jim (Tina) Parker both of Centerburg; 5 grandchildren: Amber (Brock) Hoffer, Justin, Jaimie, Michaela, Zachery; 1 great grandchild: Dominick Mikel Hoffer; step-daughters: Kim Rushia and Debbie Wells both of South Dakota; brothers: Charles (Pat) of Martinsburg, Roy (Shirley) of Centerburg, Joe (Darlene) of Marengo, Ricky (Tammy) of Centerburg, Larry and Gary both of Mount Vernon; sisters: Mary Ellen Osborne and Etta May Leedy both of Centerburg.
Preceded in death by son: John; step-son: Randy Wells; brother: Tommy.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Centerburg Church of Christ, 3830 S. Columbus Road, Centerburg where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Roger Crego officiating. Internment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery.Arrangements entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.
