John E. Martin, 49, of Cardington, Ohio was killed in an automobile accident on Wednesday, February 14, 2001 in Morrow County.
He was a lifelong Morrow County resident, born near Chesterville on March 13, 1951. He graduated from Cardington-Lincoln High School in 1969 and The Ohio State University. He was a Certified Public Accountant and was working as the Comptroller and Instructor for Marion Technical College. He had previously worked for Sharrock Elevator and Sims Fertilizer. John was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, the Whetstone Industries Board, the Morrow County Horsemen’s Council, and a past member of the Morrow County Fair Board. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, and horses.
He is survived by his wife Terril A. Eckard Martin, whom he married Nov. 25, 1970; a son Jason R. Martin of Cardington, OH; a daughter and son-in-law Chanda & John Coil of Johnsville, OH; two grandchildren Cody and Ashlee; his mother Barbara Ruhl Alm of Cardington, OH; a brother Bryan Mason of Cardington, OH; a sister and brother-in-law Mary & Bud Cochran of Ashley, OH; a maternal grandfather Budd Ruhl of Mt. Gilead, OH; his mother-in-law Phyllis Eckard of Cardington, OH; and two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Terry & Mary Eckard of Mt. Gilead, OH, and Robert & Julie Eckard of Arlington, TX.
Friends may call at the Snyder Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead on Friday from 5-8 p.m. Pastor Scott Pickle will hold funeral services there Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Marion Technical College Scholarship Fund.
