John E. German, 64, of Galion died Monday, October 20, 2014 at the Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus.

Born April 8, 1950 in Rutland, he was the son of Howard and Lissa (Hysell) German. He married Carol (Studer) German on April 8, 1996 and she survives. He was previously married to Florence Evelyn (Cains) German and she preceded him in 1995.

He was a graduate of Rutland High School in 1968 and was self-employed as a body man. He was a North Bloomfield Township Trustee for over 20 years and enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and restoring tractors. John’s family was extremely important to him.

In addition to his wife he is survived by sons Jeffrey (Lisa) Tolley of Galion and James (Beth) Tolley of Mt. Gilead; daughters Joan (Denzil) Burkhardt of Cardington and June Tolley of Mansfield; grandchildren Emily (Matthew) Leader of Johnstown, Benjamin Burkhardt of Findlay, Jacob Diosi of Bucyrus and Johnna Tolley of Galion; brothers Howard Curtis (Janet) German of Langsville and Robert L. (Jody) German of Newark; sisters Betty Bowles of Pataskala and Edna Coy of Galion and numerous nephews and nieces.

In addition to his first wife and parents he was preceded in death by daughter Jona Faye German.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Snyder Funeral Home Richardson Davis Chapel, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2014 with Pastor Christopher Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Blooming Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Ohio State University Heart Center in care of the funeral home.
