John D. Anderson, age 89, of Mount Gilead, died Wednesday morning, November 26, 2008.

He was born in Port-Glasgow, Scotland and was the son of the late James N. and Janet M. Anderson. As a young man in Scotland, he enjoyed playing soccer and golf. He was a Bombardier in the Royal Air Force in the European Theater during World War II and came to the United States in 1951. He was a resident of Mount Gilead for over 50 years. John retired from the Galion Division of Dresser Industries in 1982, as an Engineer. His passion was playing golf at the Pine Lakes Golf Club and he continued to play golf up until a year of his death. John also loved to read and was a frequent visitor to the Mount Gilead Public Library.

He is survived by his wife, June (Wallace) Anderson, to whom he was married to for 51 years, two daughters, Kim and Dale Crock (son-in-law), grandchildren, Nathan, Krista and Justin Crock, all of Galion, Ohio. Stacey and John Jones (son-in-law), grandchildren, Isaac and Lydia, of Ontario, Ohio, and Jordan Jones of Columbus, Ohio. Also surviving him is his sister-in-law Margie Cooper and two nieces and their families of Mount Gilead and Cardington, Ohio. A brother, Ivan Anderson of Berea, Ohio survives him as well.

He was preceded in death by one brother, George Anderson, of Scotland and sister-in-law Terry Anderson, of Berea, Ohio.

A private ceremony was held with his family gathered together on November 27, Thanksgiving Day. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all his family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the American Heart Association P.O. Box 163549, Columbus, Ohio 43216.
