John A. Caruso Sr., age 91, of Dixie Dr., Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday afternoon, May 1, 2008 at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
John was born on August 13, 1916 in Monroe Township, New Jersey, a son of the late Antonio and Mary (Qurqueso) Caruso.
John was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 847 in Mount Vernon and a charter member of the Fourth Degree, Father John Baptist Lamy Assembly 2970, Danville/Mount Vernon.
John is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Schiano) Caruso, whom he married on November 15, 1986; a son, John A. Caruso Jr. of Monroe Township, NJ; daughters, Jo Ann (Edward) Mixtacki and Deborah Best both of Monroe Township, NJ; and three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Caruso and a brother, Leonard Caruso.
The family will receive friends from Noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the Celebrant. A Fourth Degree Honor Guard will be provided by the Father John Baptist Lamy Assembly.
Graveside services will be held in the Saint James Cemetery in Jamesburg, New Jersey at Noon on Wednesday, May 7, 2008.
The family has requested no flowers to be sent to the funeral home.
