Centerburg, Ohio

Joe Ann Zimmerman, age 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2020, surrounded by her family at the Centerburg Respiratory Center in Centerburg, Ohio.  She was born in Columbus, Ohio, on April 25, 1932, to Milton C. Bonnette and Opal F. (Nutt) Bonnette.

Surviving Joe Ann, and left to cherish her memory, are her sons, Jeffrey (Kristina) Zimmerman of Columbus, Jay (Tia Raver) Zimmerman of Reynoldsburg, and Jamie (Debbie) Zimmerman of Westerville; a daughter, Jodi Zimmerman (John Holcomb) of Centerburg; a sister, Betsy Behling of Grove City;  eight grandchildren including Warren, Lindsay, Evan, Elise, Tyler, Kellyn, Brennon, and Logan ; and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, Gerald “Jerry” Zimmerman and a sister, Virginia Kilbourne.

Joe Ann was a very dedicated member of the Centerburg Church of Christ, where she was active in a weekly bible study group. She also participated in numerous church choirs over the years and taught Sunday school. She was an excellent artist and enjoyed drawing.  Joe Ann loved nature, including flowers, birds, and vegetable gardening. She is described by her family as having been a very good piano player and even influenced her children to embrace and love music.  Several of her children went on to be active musicians themselves.

As the matriarch of a family that moved often, Joe Ann became skilled at home remodeling and painting.  She was the ever-present “glue” that kept the family together and moving forward in life.  As her children grew up, she supported and was involved with the extensive car restoration projects that Jerry and their boys tackled. She was an active member of the Triumph Register of America car club that her husband and oldest son Jeff helped create. She maintained a life-long passion for her family and was a proud, loving Mother and Grandmother.

Family and friends may call 10 am – 12 pm on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. St. Rt. 61, Sunbury, where a memorial service will be held at 12 pm with Pastor Roger Crego officiating.  Internment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Columbus.  Memorial contributions may be considered in Joe Ann’s name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. • I came to know Joe through the Centerburg Church of Christ and so glad I did. She was such a warm and caring person and always had a smile on her face. Miss seeing and talking with her at church but she will be remembered. So sorry for your loss. God Bless

  • Jo and her husband Jerry were the first folks we met when we moved in as neighbors 17 years ago. They were always there when we needed anything and felt like second parents.
