Joann Elaine Forgrave, age 79, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Newark, died Wednesday January 2, 2002 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. Joann was born August 19, 1922 in Newark to Nye Alexander Schofield and Jane (Stone) Schofield and moved to Mount Vernon 27 years ago from Newark. She was a graduate of Newark High School and had been employed as an administrative assistant with the First Knox National Bank in Mount Vernon. Joann had been an avid tennis player and had been Licking County Tournament Champion for 3 consecutive years. She was a member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon where she had been an active member of the Alter Guild. Joann had also served as a hospice volunteer in Knox County. She was a lady with a kind heart and always thought of others.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Richard) Laslo of Mount Vernon, two sons Thomas (Susan) Forgrave of Allison Park, Pennsylvania and John (Kristina) Forgrave of Herndon, Virginia; six grandchildren Reid Forgrave, Julia Forgrave, Scott (Shelly) Laslo, Joel (Lesly Parker) Laslo, Zack Forgrave, and Sebastian Forgrave; and a great grandson Jarrod Laslo. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Forgrave, a brother Donald Schofield and a sister Margie Broomshine.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 10 AM at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon with Rev. Diane Cook officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends at the church parish house.
Committal services will be held Saturday at 2 PM at the Newark Memorial Gardens.
The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is in charge of arrangements.
