Joan (VanHoose) Fisher, age 68 of Ashley passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 22, 1944 in Paintsville, Kentucky to the late Mitchell and Addie VanHoose. A graduate of Buckeye Valley High School in 1962, she moved to the Delaware area 45 years ago from Kentucky. Joan retired in 2011 after 23 years with the Liebert Corporation, working primarily as a data entry specialist.

A devoted member of the Lewis Center Freewill Baptist Church, she served the church in many ways, but especially as a youth and song leader. Joan sang and traveled with the VanHoose Southern Gospel Group. Described as a down to the bone Christian, she was a woman of deep faith.

With a love for the outdoors, she enjoyed nature and gardening. Reading and spending time with her grandchildren were her favorite pastimes. Always loving and caring, she saw only the good and positive, with a disregard for negativity.

Church and family were her life and she was happiest at church, singing with her family. She will be remembered for her joyous nature and friendly smile.

Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of 44 years: Hoy, sons Keith (Jennifer) Fisher and Brian Fisher both of Ashley, treasured grandchildren: Amber (Korey) Gordon, Alissa (Jason) Ramey, great-granddaughter Khloe Gordon as well as an expected great-grandchild, brothers Gary VanHoose of Delaware, Rick (Nancy) VanHoose of Olathe, Kansas, sister Christine Franklin of Ashley, sister-in-law Nancy VanHoose of Ashley, brother-in-law Quint Castle of Ashley.

She was also preceded in death by brothers: Mick VanHoose, infant Cecil, and sisters Faye VanHoose and Ruella Castle.

Friends may call Thursday 4-7 p.m. at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Dr, Delaware, where services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev’s Tony Walker and Tony Franklin officiating. Friends and family are then invited into the Snyder-Rodman Community Room for a time of food and fellowship following the services.
