Joan Farris, age 87 of Sunbury passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at St. Ann’s Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born April 27, 1928 in Ashland, Kentucky to the late George R. DeVore Sr. and Frances B. (Bentz) DeVore.  After growing up in the former DeVore Funeral Home in Galena, she graduated from Galena High School in 1946 where she was a cheerleader and class Salutatorian.  Before retiring she worked in the personnel department of Div. 6 of ODOT for 33 years.

A 50 year member of George Lewis Behrens Chapter #504 O.E. S., she served two terms as Past Matron of Columbia Chapter #33 O.E.S., and was a member of Sunbury United Methodist Church.

Always particular about her appearance, she was a woman of style and beauty. With nothing ever out of place, she saw to it that everything matched head to toe. Joan was also an avid shopper, both retail and TV, and was an active member of the Republican Party.

She also enjoyed a passion for her Golden Retrievers, especially Brady.  Deemed as captain of the family ship, she was most proud of her family

Survived by her husband of 60 years Harold “Cobb” Farris, sons Kris of Sebring, Florida and Lynn Farris of Westerville, grandchildren Stacy, Kevin, Jared, and Ryan Farris, Several great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, brother Richard “Dick” (Phyllis) DeVore of Sunbury, nephew Garee DeVore, niece Beth (Don)Kaltenbach.


Friends may call 4-7 Monday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury where services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Celebrant Don Lockwood officiating. Graveside services will be held 1:00 Tuesday in Sunbury Memorial Park next to her parents.
