Joan Edna Kokaska  nee Skudlark, 90, of Delaware, Ohio and formerly of Chicago, Illinois passed away peacefully July, 21 2020 at the Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by her loving children.

Joan was born January 4, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, and a graduate of Chicago’s Harrison High School  in 1948. After graduation she worked for Maytag, then met the love of her life Robert “Babe” Edward Kokaska at a dance in an ice cream parlor. Joan & Babe married July 27, 1951. They started their family in Brookfield then moved to Wildwood, Il  on Gages Lake to raise their family.

In the 1970’s Joan’s love of crocheting, led her to design her own patterns, and test patterns for Leisure Arts, and The American School of Needlework. Her crochet patterns have been published and now reside in various books and catalogs in the Library of Congress. In 1987 Joan & Babe retired to Winterhaven, Florida  where their love for Disney flourished, having visited the park over 500 times. Joan loved to sing and dance, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Merry (Max) Ladewig and John (Karen) Kokaska; grandchildren Nichole (David) Gustafson, Stephan Husko and Emma Kokaska, and Great-Grand Daughter Payton AnnaBelle Gustafson; several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert “Babe” Kokaska  on June 3, 2011, her parents Jacob and Fern (Davis) Skudlark, sisters Lois Gradishar and Margaret Olesky, and brothers Harold & George Skudlark.

It was Joan’s wish to be cremated, interment will be private.
