Joan E. Mahan, age 69, of Centerburg died Friday morning, June 9, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

She was born on July 10, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio the daughter of the late Robert and Georgia (Mitchell) Hatten.

Joan was a 1965 graduate of Centerburg High School and used to work at the sand and gravel pit in Mount Vernon.

She was a member of Centerburg United Methodist Church where she played organ, sang in the choir, and played bells.

Joan also enjoyed feeding the birds, but most important was her family and she especially loved watching her granddaughters play sports.

She will be missed by her son Darren and his wife Lori of Circleville; her granddaughters Kylee and Caitlyn; her sister Ruth Ann Graham of Worthington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Carolyn Hankins-Hatten.

Friends may call on the family on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 5-8 PM at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074.  Friends may also call one hour prior to the funeral services which will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the Centerburg United Methodist Church, 65 S. Hartford Avenue, Centerburg, OH 43011.  Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.

    One of the few folks in Centerburg who told me like it was and still loved me like one of her extended family sons; was your feisty and loving mother.

    She did love those who she considered family, physical and extended; with the same love and compassion…no matter where they were.

    Joan will always have a place in my heart. My prayers to you, the Mahan/Hatten families and all who knew this dear spirited and loving lady.
