Joan “Jo” Connolly enjoyed Big Band music and Jitter Bugging with husband, Jim. She had a gift of creating a huge fabulous meal at a moment’s notice out of whatever she had in the kitchen. Jo Connolly of Galion passed away Sunday evening, May 7, 2017 at Galion Hospital at the age of 82.

She was born June 13, 1934 in Wyandot County and was the daughter of Carl and Mildred (Smith) Hetzel. Jo is survived by her husband of 48 years, James P. Connolly, whom she married on November 18, 1968.

Joan was a 1952 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School. She was a homemaker most of her life, but had previously worked at the former North Electric, Great Scott Grocery Store, Fleetwood Mobile Homes all of Galion, Geauga Plastics of Crestline and the Iberia Restaurant.

Jo loved listening to her husband, Jim, sing Sinatra and Tony Bennett. In addition, she made quilts, wedding dresses and many other items of clothing for the family. Jo liked to garden and enjoyed watching movies, especially the old black and whites from the 40’s.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by children Christine (Brian) Bacin of Galion, Deborah (Dan) Lewis of Harpster, Mark (Susan) Halm of Lewis Center and Bethany Connolly of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren Rachel (Shawn) Dickerson, Seth (Lindsey) Lewis, Brian (Meghan) Bacin, Jr., Megan (Kyle) Nagle and Jaime Halm; six great-grandchildren Logan Dickerson, Nathan and Ethan Lewis, Wil and Chloe Bacin and Sloan Nagle; three brothers Brad (Susie) Hetzel of Ocala, Florida, Tom (Sandy) Hetzel of Iberia and Edwin “Mike” (Hertha) Hetzel of Bucyrus; four sisters Sally Rall of Upper Sandusky, Carol Redick of Mt. Gilead, Kathy (Jerry) Ruhl of Mt. Gilead and Rachael Yvonne (Darryl) Lanker of Ocala, Florida and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Richard Hetzel.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society serving Crawford County in care of the funeral home.
