Jewell L. Sabados, age 78 of Sunbury passed away Sunday, November 22, 2009.

She was born on August 30, 1931 in Jenks, Kentucky to the late Hobart and Bertha Mae (Jenkins) Rice. A graduate of Hartford High School in 1949, she retired as a supervisor with the State of Ohio income tax division.

A longtime Girl Scout leader, she organized the Sunbury day camp program. She also served as a den mother with Cub Scouts and had been active with the Galena PTO. She collected bells, cups, and wind up toys of all types. She was happiest outside, enjoying nature and her German Shepard dogs.

Very insightful and a good judge of character, she loved her family and participating in their lives. Most proud of her grandchildren, she was a fixture at her granddaughter’s horse shows. She will be remembered for making people happy and her warm smile.

Survived by daughter: Mona (Steve) Lord of Galena, daughter-in-law: Judy Sabados of Mt. Vernon, Grandchildren: Annie, Zoe, Jessica, Heather, Michael, Aunt Naomi Green of Richmond, KY, numerous nieces & nephews, and extended family members.

Also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years: Mike Sabados Jr. in 1998, son: Michael Sabados in 2003, granddaughter: Alyx Lord in 1991, sisters: Mabel Jenkins, Nevah Rice, brothers: Thexton Rice and Roy Evans.

Friends may call Monday, November 30th from 4 – 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61 in Sunbury where services will be held Tuesday 2:00 p.m., interment Trenton Cemetery.
